irc
Currently Fossil Technology is hosting an IRC server for its members and friends.  The server is irc.fossiltechnology.com and we normally hang out in the channel #FT.  If you are unlearned in the ways of IRC, fear not.  Below is a simple step-by-step guide on how to get started.

Step 1) Download mIRC.  Don't worry about registering it.  You can continue to use it after your trial is up.

Step 2) Click the button that looks like a folder and a hammer (hotkey is Alt+O).    On the left side you'll see a tree named Connect.  Click the Add button.  For a description, you can fill in whatever you like, but Fossil Technology would probably work best.  In the box marked Server type in irc.fossiltechnology.com.  We use port 6667 and no password.  Click the Add button and make sure it says whatever description you typed in in the dropdown box.

Step 3) Type in whatever you'd like for a Full Name.  It doesn't have to be your real name.  For an Email Address you can put anything in as long as it's formatted like an email address (i.e.: blah@blah.com).  For a Nickname and Alternate fill in what you'd like to be known as on the server and a backup just in case the nick is taken already.  Click OK and you're ready to connect.

Step 4) Click the lightning bolt button to connect (it's next to the Options button).    After some random stuff scrolling by that may not make any sense you will see something saying what your current nick and host are.  Congratulations, you're on the server.  Type /join #FT and you'll join the channel.  To talk in the channel, type whatever you want to say.  To send someone a private message, double-click their name to bring up a PM tab or type /query and their nick to open the tab.

If you have any questions, anyone that's around should be willing to help.  If you need advanced help, the server admin's common nicks are Talon, Tsume, and Chesh.  He always has a ~ next to his name (the sign of a channel founder), so it's either the one who registered the channel or the Fossil Technician.

   Happy IRC-ing.
